Executive Summary
The study titled "Mobilizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): A Case Study of
Applying Participatory Democracy to Promote Road Safety in Thai Youth " is a pilot project
conducted in Samut Prakan and Chainat provinces of Thailand. For participatory implementation,
the two provinces were selected because they have strong network of citizens and youths that
actually lead to further development and improvement for other areas. Objectives of the study
are as follow:
1. to analyze the measures available to all relevant government and non-government
actors for reducing road traffic accidents in the case study area;
2. to propose a practical model for achieving sustainable development goals through
participatory approach to deal with road traffic problems among youth in the case study area.
Participatory action research was the method used in the study. Target groups were
students from Sakhla Sutthira Uppatham School (69 persons) and Chainat Technical College (47
persons). Members of the target groups were engaged in a participatory process to design action
plans, implement the plans, collect data, and evaluate the planned activities undertaken,
Study area
1. Sakla Sutthira Uppatham School (Samut Prakan Province) is under the supervision of
the Office of Secondary Education District 6. This secondary school of Naklua Sub-district is
located at Phra Samut Chedi District. There are currently 8 2 students and 1 1 administrators,
teachers and other staff members.
2. Chainat Technical College (Chai Nat Province) is a medium-sized technical college. The
college is currently has 15 academic departments including the Department of General Subjects,
the Department of Motor Mechanics, the Department of Mechanical Technicians, and the
Department of Welders.
Results
1. After the participatory action planning process was complete, participants at each
school were divided into five groups to manage projects. All groups were enthusiastic to conduct
their projects. The projects proceeded well despite time and budgetary limitations. .
2 . Sakhla Sutthira Uppatham School proposed five projects, and King Prajadhipok’ s
institute granted each a budget of 3,000 baht. The five projects were named:

- Road of Mali
- White Road
