                                                      Executive Summary


                              The objectives of the study were as follows: 1) to survey the success of peer
                       mediation  in  schools;  and  2)  to  study  the  factors  leading  to  the  success  of  peer

                       mediation in schools. The study was qualitative research in which the key informants
                       consisted of those who had experiences and were related to the work of mediation,

                       namely,  school  administrators,  responsible  teachers,  student  leaders,  mediators,
                       students  who  were  parties  to  the  conflict,  including  those  who  pushed  forward the

                       setup of agencies on peaceful means in schools with ten persons from each school,

                       together in a total of forty persons from four schools comprising: 1) Center for Peace
                       and Student Governance of Dhurakij Pundit University, 2) Phanom Sarakham Phanom

                       Adun  Witthaya  School,  Chachoengsao  province,  3)  Satrinonthaburi  School,  and  4)

                       Satrinakhonsawan  School.  All  of  which  were  divided  into  2  groups:  one  group  with
                       considerable experiences in peer mediation, and one group with few experiences in peer

                       mediation. The data collection was conducted by means of non-participant observation

                       as  well  as  structured  and  unstructured  interviews.  In  the  beginning,  it  was  the
                       development  of  a  conceptual  framework  of  factors  leading  to  the  success  of  peer

                       mediation  based  on  related  concepts  and  theories.  Followed  by  an  interview  and
                       consult  with  experts  in  mediation.  The  researcher  then  conducted  a  field  study  to

                       understand the context and environment of all four schools. The unstructured interview

                       was also employed to acquire data about the school environment. Subsequently, the
                       data was collected through a systematic interview with the same kind of questions and

                       the same standard in order to obtain systematic and classified data for grouping and
                       analyzing. A research instrument consisted of interview guidelines with an emphasis on

                       assessing the success of peer mediation in schools, factors leading to the success of

                       peer  mediation  in  schools,  including  suggestions  for  developing  the  work  of  peer
                       mediation.  The  collected  data  were  proceeded  by  the  content  analysis  based  on

                       related concepts and theories to find consistency and differences. The duration of the

                       study was two years starting from September 30, B.E. 2556 to September 30, B.E. 2558.
